We publish primary source, in-depth interviews with conductors as well as peer-reviewed and journalistic articles, and are the most regular publication on the subject of conducting. Avoiding the anecdotal approach so typical of interviews with world-class musicians, Notes provides insights and information that are rarely available elsewhere. Every conversation serves as a bridge between academic musicology and the practical concerns of professional performance, addressing issues that are often overlooked by traditional scholarship. The journal is intended for professional musicians, educators, researchers, students, and readers with a serious interest in musical performance and interpretation.

Notes is used as a teaching resource at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London; Carnegie Mellon, USA; and subscribed to by other universities and individuals worldwide.
